Using Facebook for Your Job Search

Facebook is such a popular social networking website that you’ve probably heard it mentioned in general conversation. If you already have a Facebook account of your own, you have probably mentioned it when talking to a friend or family member. This is probably because you spend a lot of time there. But you know who else spends a lot of time there?

The answer: Employers looking for quality employees.

Employers create pages on Facebook to promote their product, but they also place on their pages whether or not they are hiring. If they are hiring, then they will provide the necessarily information for someone to apply.

If career changing is in your near future because you are not happy with your current job, this is something that you may want to take advantage of.

Facebook and jobs

Facebook enables companies to list ads. When you are on your home page, you can look to the right side of the page and will most likely see ads. Sometimes these ads are for a product and other times they are for a business. The text under the ad can vary.

Some of the ads may state that the company that the ad is for is hiring. If that’s the case, you simply click the ad and you will receive more information on the position being hired for and any other details the employer wishes to include.

However, you may know that a company is hiring and you simply want to know more about that company. You can use the search feature through Facebook to learn as much about a company as possible. You can look at their page and see what the company says and see what others are saying on the company page.

But there is also another feature that you can use to find out more about a company in your job hunt. You can use the “find past coworkers” search option to search for individuals who have worked for the company. You can receive quite the different perspective from individuals who no longer work there. Yes, some may have not liked the job, but others will be honest about the type of work being done. If you feel comfortable doing so for the sake of your career change, you can ask these individuals what they thought of the company.

Cut down the research

Using Facebook in your job hunt can cut down on a lot of the research that you would do otherwise. When an opportunity may be one that won’t come open again for a very long time, you want to make sure you do what you can to make sure you’ve done all you can to possibly secure that job. That way you don’t have to wonder “what if.”

So make sure you use the features that Facebook has to offer so that you can make your job hunt one that runs as smooth as possible. You may be quite surprised at how much information Facebook can offer you.
