1.Green is this year's color. Green jobs are the flavor of the month and because of the new administration this month should last at least four years and more. Solar energy, alternative fuels, energy conservation are all hot! Social awareness and conscious investing are also growing.
2. Baby boomers. Baby boomers have taken some hits in the recession. Their retirement funds and their homes are worth less. But they will still have huge needs as they retire. Jobs will be in areas as diverse as assisted living for active seniors, travel, career planning (lots of boomers will work after they retire) and dating.
3. Government. Money is being invested in local, state and federal government. Whether it's new roads or electronic medical records or overseeing bank bailouts there will be lots of opportunities.
4. Healthcare. Healthcare doesn't only mean nursing and medicine as careers. There are all kinds of jobs which directly relate to patient care - from chiropractic services to social work and even more which support them - from patient check in to HR.
5. Alternative. Alternative work is becoming mainstream. Yoga is taught in law offices, poetry is shared at corporate retreats and meditation is a recognized part of some treatment programs at traditional hospitals. Self-help, consciousness raising and spirituality are all expanding and jobs or business opportunities are growing.
